Cristiano Ronaldo has capped off a brilliant debut campaign at Juventus by winning the Serie A Player of the Season award.
After nearly a decade of goal and trophy-laden success at Real Madrid, Ronaldo made the bold move in moving to Serie A champions Juventus last summer.
The Portuguese forward scored a stunning 311 goals and 95 assists in just 292 La Liga games in Spain.
But the Italian league’s greater focus on defensive play took Ronaldo a few games to adapt. The star himself confessed back in March that he views the Serie A as more difficult than either La Liga or the Premier League.
“I’ve adapted to the Italian league and it’s a difficult league – the most difficult one for all forwards,” Ronaldo told DAZN.
“It’s the most difficult league for me, it’s full of quality players. I didn’t expect this much quality in the Italian league, they’re very good.
“Things are going well, in my opinion. It’s harder to score in the Italian league than in the Spanish league. The Spanish league is more open, the teams risk more. Here, not so much.
“Here, the team’s priority is to defend first, and then to attack. That’s not true for Spain. Spanish games are more open. The English league, where I played for five years [with Manchester United], is the same.
“It’s harder to score in the Italian league, in my opinion.”
Nonetheless, Ronaldo has registered an impressive haul of 21 goals and 11 assists in his 30 appearances this season to help Juventus win an eighth consecutive Serie A title.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the league’s third-highest scorer, despite being frequently rested for Juventus’ Champions League games.
