Croatia established its position as the leader of the group by routinely beating Hungary in Split.

The match started with high expectations for both sides.

Hungary wanted to take over the top of the group as they were only one point behind the Croats.

However, the hosts had other plans.

After a big mistake in the Hungary midfield, Modric took the ball around the 4th minute of the match and scored to make it 1-0.

This clearly shook the Hungarians, as they conceded another one just 20 minutes later. Dinamo’s ace Bruno Petkovic used another Hungary’s mistake to strengthen the lead.

The match was over by the halftime, as Petkovic struck again, scoring the third goal of the match for Croatia after yet another catastrophic mistake from the Hungarian defence.

Things went from bad to worse for Hungary, as Croatia got the penalty which was missed by Perisic. Kleinheisler conceded a red card just a minute later, effectively ending the match.
