Wilfried Zaha has been hotly linked with a move away from Selhurst Park this summer but Connor Wickham isn’t worried about how it could affect the club.
Wilfried Zaha has done enough during his time at Crystal Palace to earn a move to a bigger club. The Ivory Coast international is one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League.
Such strong displays have naturally alerted many top clubs who are vying for his signature. Arsenal are reportedly in the lead when it comes to signing the winger. However, the Gunners have not been able to make the sort of bid that would convince the Eagles to let Zaha go.
Zaha is set to return to his club in August after representing his country at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this month.
Without Zaha, Palace are going to struggle. And Wickham says that even though he is hopeful to see his teammate stay, he doesn’t believe that the player’s departure could threaten the club’s existence in the Premier League.
“He is an exceptional talent, a massive part of our squad and Wilf knows what he brings,” he told Standard Sport. “We need to keep hold of him.
“If we do then we’ll be in good stead but we have enough quality to still be a good Premier League team [if he leaves]. Obviously, Wilf is a massive addition to what we bring but we also have a different dimension if something did happen.
“We all know what Wilf is about, he is one of those flair players and is attracting a lot of attention. That is why every single transfer window has been based around him, someone coming in for him or putting in bids, and, at the end of the day, that is football.
“Wilf has changed as a character, I have known him from U21s and I think he has matured massively as a player and as a person off the pitch, that is a credit to him.”
