The Japanese club already surprised the world in 2016 when they advanced all the way to the Final of the FIFA Club World Cup

Kashima Antlers is one of the most important teams in the Japanese League known as the J-League.

The club will participate in its second FIFA Club World Cup this year in the United Arab Emirates.

The Antlers are based in the city of Kashima, which literally translates to “Deer Island” in Japan.

The club was founded in 1947 and is celebrating its 71st anniversary this year.

With 35 official championships, Kashima has enjoyed recent success having won the J-League in eight occasions.

They won the AFC Champions League for the first time this year.

This is their second appearance in the tournament. In 2016 they made history when they played in the Club World Cup final against Real Madrid only to fall in extra time.

They have been drawn against Guadalajara in the Quarter-Finals in a match to be played on December 15th.
