Dani Alves has urged his former Barcelona team-mate Neymar to not throw in the towel over a dream return to Camp Nou in the future.
Just two years after swapping Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar attempted to pull off a shock Blaugrana comeback in the summer.
Ultimately, though, Barcelona couldn’t make a satisfying enough offer to entice PSG into selling their prized asset. Therefore, Neymar remains in France to this day and has since worked his way back into the team.
All signs indicate, so far anyway, that the 27-year-old is handling his disappointment well. He’s even bagged two goals in his opening three Ligue 1 games this season.
But Alves, who has partnered Neymar at Barcelona, PSG and with the Brazil national team, is confident his compatriot can still find his way back to Camp Nou someday.
“Regarding Neymar, I still think his happiness is in Barcelona,” the now-Sao Paulo star told Business Insider.
“I believe he’d find happiness in continuing the success he had there a couple of years ago. When you are happy somewhere you try to go back to the place you were happy, and I think that’s what he tried to do.
”I’m sure if in the future he wishes to go back he will be able to.”
Interestedly, reports have recently claimed that PSG could attempt to offer Neymar a new contract.
The Brazilian forward, who joined the club for a world-record €222m in 2017, is currently tied down at the Parc Des Princes until 2022.
He will return to action for Saturday’s trip to Bordeaux, where Thomas Tuchel’s men hope to bounce back from a shock 2-0 home defeat to Stade Reims on Wednesday in the Ligue 1.
