David Luiz: Chelsea could ruin Arsenal’s ambitions

David Luiz has opened up on Chelsea’s ambition to win the Europa League at the same time ruin Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions.

The Blues secured a place in Baku via spot-kicks Eintracht Frankfurt to set up an all-English final on May 29.

But the bragging rights and extra motivation to deny Arsenal a return to the Champions League would be extra sweet for their London rivals.

Luiz, whose Chelsea side have already clinched a top-four finish this season, said: “We have to try to win the trophy.

“We know that if we win they will not be in the Champions League. This will be better for us because we put a fantastic team out of the Champions League!”

The final will bring him face to face with a familiar face and former boss at Paris Saint-Germain, Unai Emery.

He said: “It is going to be a difficult game. They have a great team and a great coach. He (Emery) knows how to win this competition.

The new Arsenal footballer explains why he's happy with the Gunners and what he has learned during his football career.

“I worked with him a bit in Paris and I know how passionate he is. He knows how to play this kind of games. It is up to us to prepare well.

“The pressure will be on both sides. This is a big European title, everyone wants to be there.”

Luiz equally praised the effort of English teams to secure all-Premier League affairs in both the Europa League and Champions League finals.

He said via the DailyStar: “I am happy that English football is showing again it’s at the top level, to have the finalists in the Champions League and Europa League.

“It’s going to be the final of the Super Cup next season. So I think the English sides are finishing this season well and will start the next one well too.

“For many years it was difficult for the English teams to understand how to rotate the team and how to get to the same level for every competition. This season they did great.”

Luiz extended his stay at Chelsea by penning down a new two-year deal.
