Alphonso Davies is enjoying playing at left-back and suggests he is more than happy to continue playing in the position in the future.

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has made a name for himself as one of the world’s finest full-backs after enjoying a breakout Bundesliga season.

Davies started his career as a winger in MLS and continued to operate from that position during his debut season at Allianz Arena.

However, he was shifted to the left-back position by former coach Niko Kovac following injuries to defenders Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule early in the 2019/20 season.

The tactical experiment bore fruit. The 19-year old’s sensational performances saw him named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year while also nominated for the 2020 Golden Boy award.

In an interview with 90min, Davies was asked whether he would like to continue as a full-back or revert back to a more forward role.

“Right now, definitely left-back,” he replied. “I like the position, I like how everything is going well with my center-back partners.”

Asked to name some of his top full-backs, he said: “[Achraf] Hakimi is one of them. I really like how Benji [Pavard] plays, scoring goals and getting assists, so those two. Trent Alexander-Arnold definitely and I really like [Bukayo] Saka from Arsenal. He’s a really good player.”
