Frenkie de Jong has expressed his frustration on the referee for not award Barcelona a spot-kick after Pique suffered a foul.
FC Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad in their latest La Liga outing. The Catalans continued their trend of failing to get a win at the Anoeta after managing to do it before ten years.
Towards the end of the match, Barcelona appealed for a penalty for a foul on Gerrard Pique. The Spaniard went down in the Real Sociedad box after a challenge from Diego Llorente and Mikel Merino. The referee, however, did not seem to be interested and decided to wave it off.
After the match, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong called out the match officials. The former Ajax man ridiculed the referee for giving a penalty to La Real while not doing so for his side.
“If you give the first penalty for Real Sociedad, you have to give the one on Pique,” De Jong demanded.
“It was an intense game, with lots of pressing, and we weren’t very comfortable. But we were able to react and come back,” Frenkie De Jong said as per Marca.
Ernesto Valverde also seemed to be on the same page with De Jong’s statements and said that the penalty should not have been awarded.
“From the bench, you see the game with the shirt of your team on,” the Barca boss said.
“The penalty to Pique? I have not seen it repeated but I will say that it is a penalty and that the Busquets one was not. I guess the coach of La Real will say the opposite.”
