Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona this summer after exhausting negotiations that saw Catalans beat Paris Saint-Germain for the Dutchman’s signature.
Early signs from De Jong at Barca have been great.
The 22-year-old is one of the most consistent performers in the squad.
However, despite the team topping La Liga and their Champions League group, De Jong wants to improve.
“From time to time I have shown my qualities, but in general everything can be a lot better.
“I am not as dominant as at Ajax. In this position I have to score more goals and give assists. That requires some adjustment and therefore time.
“Everything at Barcelona is really great and I realise that. As a team we aren’t playing badly, but we have to do better.
“Every now and then we are a bit too unsure on the ball.
He then proceeded to explain his position on the pitch at Barca, adding:
“Every now and then we are a bit too unsure on the ball. Sometimes our football is very beautiful, and then a game later you ask yourself where that good form and good feeling has gone.”
The Dutch midfielder looks like he was born to play in Barca’s midfield.
There’s still a long way to go, but the fans are hoping to see him form a long-term bond with the club as he already became a key member of the squad.
De Jong is now getting a deserved rest as Barcelona will play Espanyol on January 4, 2020.
