Frenkie de Jong is excited about the prospects of playing for Spanish Champions Barcelona after his final game at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Ajax wrapped up the Eredivisie title with a 4-1 victory over Utrecht and the Dutchman confirmed he will head to Barcelona with a feeling of joy.
The young Ajax team showed resilience in their game after their heart-breaking Champions League elimination to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday to beat PSV Eindhoven to the title.
“It’s been wonderful, I go to Barcelona with great joy,” De Jong admitted via Marca.
The Dutch prodigy was hoping to meet his future employers in the Champions League final this season, however, both teams suffered shock exits in the semi-finals.
“It’s been a fantastic season, although I would have liked to have said goodbye with three titles, but it wasn’t to be.
“I watched the match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I don’t know if they need me; had they been in the final, they could have won the treble.”
