The Frenchman said in a recent interview that the Dutchman “is the best footballer I’ve ever faced,” which has made de Jong smile.
Frenkie de Jong is set to be presented by Barcelona this Friday night at the Camp Nou.
The Dutchman leaves Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax to join the Spanish La Liga team for the next season.
And in an interview a few days ago, former Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann said de Jong “is the best footballer I’ve ever faced.”
“It’s one of the best compliments I’ve received if such a player says something like that, it’s very special, I felt very honored,” de Jong told Sport.
“It’s always special to play for the national team, especially my debut was very special, I saw my family in the stands when I entered the field, which made it very special.”
He explained something about the Netherlands national team: “One of our strengths is that we always move forward, the atmosphere in the group is very good, everyone continues to work for each other, I think it could be our strongest point.”
“I think it’s fantastic, I think it’s also played in Amsterdam, so if we qualify, and I think we will, it will be like playing at home for me, I hope we can make our country feel proud to get as far as possible.”
– “Name four central midfielders?"
Frenkie de Jong: “Frenkie de Jong, Iniesta, Busquets, Xavi, Arthur, Aleña. (within 5 seconds).”
Loooool he named 6 instead of 4 and still didn’t mention Rakitic. pic.twitter.com/yRTkimxLBN
