Frenkie De Jong suggests Lionel Messi makes life easier for him with his extraordinary link-up play.
On three occasions in last night’s match Barca found themselves on the losing side. But each time, through one of their players, they managed to fight back and eventually went on to seal a 3-2 victory against Real Betis in La Liga.
Lionel Messi was the only constant behind each of Barcelona’s goals as he thrice set up his teammates to inspire a comeback from Barcelona.
Frenkie De Jong praised the Argentine after the match for his brilliant understanding to find his teammates.
“It’s easy to play by his side because he gives you balls into space,” De Jong said as per Sportsmax.
“It’s not that I have a special connection, but he gives you good balls in space.”
Frenkie De Jong, who scored the first goal for Barca last night, also went on to reflect on his performance. The midfielder, while claiming it to be his best display in recent times, insisted that he was still far from his best. He said:
“I think that was one of my best games after suffering a bit in the last few. But it wasn’t brilliant either.”
