The former Ajax footballer says he was told he will compete for one of the three positions in the Barcelona midfield.
Frenkie de Jong is yet to be presented as a Barcelona player and he is already being involved in controversies.
The former Ajax footballer was told he would compete for one of the three spots in the team’s midfield.
“[Barcelona] told me that I’d be joining to take up one of the three positions in midfield,” he was quoted by Marca.
“We’ll see what happens.”
“I’m not going to be the one saying which position I want to play,” he added.
“I would say that I know him from the Dutch national team.”
“It would be disrespectful to Valverde if I said anything else,” de Jong said.
“I don’t think things are going as people think they are. It wouldn’t be good for me to add to the speculation in this sense.”
The 22-year-old has had a successful career so far.
He came out of the Willem II youth system, playing for the senior team for the first time in 2014.
But he was bought by Ajax in 2015, where he debuted for the Jong Ajax.
And his talent made him perfect for the senior squad, debuting in 2016 with Ajax.
He is also an important part of the Netherlands national team, having played in almost all the young squads.
