Aurelio De Laurentiis admits he asked Max Allegri to become Napoli manager, but that was back in 2013.
Club owner De Laurentiis has been allegedly speaking to potential candidates. One of which is former Juventus boss Max Allegri.
The Napoli owner does not deny being in contact with Allegri but denies recently offering the Napoli job.
In an interview reported by Football Italia, explains his relationship with Allegri.
“I haven’t called anyone.”
“With [Max] Allegri we have been talking for a long time and we have a good relationship.”
“In 2013 I called him to become our coach, but he was under contract at Milan.”
“He told me that he would come to Napoli later, but by that stage, I had already given my word to [Rafa] Benitez.”
“My word is worth more than a contract.”
Regardless of what De Laurentiis says, if the current inner turmoil continues in Naples, Ancelotti may leave of his own accord.
