Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt insists that everything has improved for him after a slow start to the season following his big-money transfer.

Matthijs De Ligt caught a lot a stick at the start of his Juventus career.

The young dutchman made a big-money move from Ajax to Juventus in the summer of 2019. However, his start to life in Serie A was a far cry from what he was used to in the Eredivisie.

From the undroppable captain of Ajax to the 75 million Euro bench warmer in Turin.

Then even when he did get to play, following a season-ending injury to Giorgio Chiellini his performances were a far cry from the dependable player that led Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals.

However, as the season has progressed the detractors have lessened and the compliments are not flowing but are there to be admired on occasion.

The player himself spoke to Sky Sports Italia and admits things have improved across the board, explaining the changes he as a player had to adapt to.

He said:

“I feel much better physically now and mentally I am in a much, much better place.”

“In Serie A there are many different strikers.”

“There’s Lukaku, for example, who’s very strong and quick but also Immobile, who’s very good with his back to goal.”

“Every team has great forwards, different from one another, and every match is very difficult.”

“The bar is very high. I try to study them thoroughly before each game in order to be prepared for any outcome.”
