Julien Laurens says that Matthijs de Ligt moving to Juventus appears to be a better deal than that of Harry Maguire.
Matthijs de Ligt is all but officially a Juventus player. After taking a lot of time to make a decision on his future, the young Dutchman has reportedly decided to pursue his playing career with the Italian giants.
In the process, de Ligt has denied the overtures of the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. All three clubs were keen on signing the player whose excellent last campaign with Ajax made him one of the hottest prospects in European football.
And according to European football expert Julien Laurens, de Ligt will prove to be a better deal among all defenders who are expected to leave their current stations this summer. While Leicester City are asking for a world record fee to part with Harry Maguire, that wasn’t the case with de Ligt.
“£67.5m was the price from the beginning.
“There was time maybe last summer that the price could have been £45m but after the season that he just had, the price was always £67.5m.
“To be fair it does feel like it is a really good deal for Juventus and would have been for any club in Europe,” Laurents says according to Daily Star.
“When you consider how good he is and how young he is and the room for improvement and it is an excellent deal.
“So well done to Juventus, there was a time where it didn’t look good at all and Barcelona were favourites and Paris Saint-Germain were interested.”
While de Ligt has already decided to play under Maurizio Sarri next season, Harry Maguire is still waiting to find out when the Foxes will give their blessing to a move to Manchester United.
