As Serie A’s Atalanta prepare to face Premier League Manchester City, Marten de Roon fears City more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.

Atalanta is new to the UEFA Champions League, and tonight they prepare to take on English Premier League Champions Manchester City.

While they sit third in Serie A, they are dead last in Group C. They have played two and lost two.

What is worse still for the Italian side, is that the two loses have come against what many would consider far weaker opposition than City pose.

Midfielder Marten de Roon believes that City has that little bit extra than the Bianconeri.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, while his side is prepared for the game, they are fully aware of the quality they have and the threat they pose.

He said:

“We’ve prepared well to play against them, we know their quality.”

“We’ve already played against good teams like Juve and Napoli, but City has something extra.”

“We have to give it our best shot, then we’ll see: we must believe in our game and our quality.”

Dutchman De Roon had a spell in English football back in 2016, when he faced Manchester City when he played for Middlesborough.

He even scored against them, but he remembers vividly what City could have done to his side back then.

He added:

“I remember it very well, the joy with our fans was something I’d never seen before.”

“It was one of the best moments of my career.”

“Everyone here suffers for 90 minutes.”

“In the game where I scored, they missed 5-6 easy chances and then we managed to equalise.”

“Several teams go to City to defend, but we want to play our game and try to attack.”

“In the box, they’re the best in Europe but we want to try to hurt their defense.”

The odds are definitely stacked against the dutchman and his Italian side.
