Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has heaped praises on Anwar El Ghazi following the player’s performance against West Bromwich Albion.
On what was an extremely frustrating night on the whole for Aston Villa, with the club conceding a late equaliser that shouldn’t have stoop due a handball, there were still positives for the manager to pick out.
The performance of El Ghazi seems to be one of those positives, the winger gave the Albion defence a difficult time and was involved in both Villa goals.
Firstly, his shot was deflected into the back of the net to hand the Villans an early lead before a stunning individual goal helped restore their advantage in the second half.
The Dutch winger was direct in his play and fantastic technique from the right wing.
El Ghazi impressed Smith who told the Express & Star how pleased he was with how the former Netherlands U21 international has adapted.
“His attitude has been great. And he can score those kinds of goals quite often – he’s a threat.”
“There’s always a transition period for people who come into the Championship. It’s very hard physically. Certainly, he’s back and ready.”
