Saint-Etienne defender Mathieu Debuchy is hopeful of making the French World Cup squad this summer after impressing in Ligue 1 this season
The former Arsenal defender returned to Ligue 1 in January with Saint-Etienne after a disappointing spell in North London.
Since his return to France, Debuchy has impressed and recently won a Player of the Month award with the full-back now hopeful of making a comeback to the France team ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
“I was surprised to get back to this level so quickly. Surprised but very happy. There are places up for grabs for the World Cup.” said the 32-year-old, according to SportsMole.
“After the hard times I have known, to return after four months with St Etienne followed by a World Cup would be magic. When the squad is announced, I think I’ll be in front of my TV and I’ll wait like everyone else.”
Debuchy has made 27 appearances for France at international level and his last appearance for the national side came in September 2015.
