Jermain Defoe said it’s only a matter of time before Marcus Rashford unleashes his full potential
The 20-year-old striker’s struggles to gain regular opportunities at Manchester United has continued this season with just two starts in five Premier League appearances.
Yet for England, Rashford remains a key member of the national side and found the net in his last two games against Switzerland and Spain.
And Defoe, who scored 20 times in 57 matches for England, expects that Rashford will soon step up to the next level and become the prolific scorer he is destined to be.
“I love Marcus Rashford,” Defoe told ESPN. “I think it’s just a matter of time before he actually goes on and score 20-25 goals in a season and then he would really kick on.
“What he has got, he can become so special.
“He has speed and I’ve seen him do things in training that make you go ‘Wow!’
“This kid is going to be special and he will go on and have that season where he scores a lot of goals and becomes more confident to kick on from there.”
Rashford, who has already participated in two major tournaments for England, is expected to feature against Croatia in Rijeka on Friday.
