Arsenal brought Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona in January but the Spaniard failed to make an impact during a six-month injury-laden sojourn.
When Arsenal engineered a loan move for Denis Suarez from Barcelona, it was thought that the midfielder would be a huge success. And it was likely to happen. The 25-year-old had a great spell at Seville under Unai Emery in 2017. Sadly though reuniting with his former manager didn’t help Denis Suarez.
The midfielder struggled with consistent injuries and was found more often than not on the treatment table. Indeed, as the Gunners struggled to secure a top four place, Denis Suarez was mostly seen on the sidelines.
While giving a tell-all interview to Cadena Ser, Suarez opened up on his English misery. The midfielder claims that he was never even 50% fit to begin with. Suarez who made only six substitute appearances for the London club, last played against Manchester United back in the second week of March.
“On the 16th day of arriving at Arsenal I was not even 50 percent (fit), it was a year to forget but also to learn,” Suarez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser on Thursday.
“I thought I had torn my groin and they did a scan and saw that I had an oedema (an excess of fluid) around the bone in my pelvis.
“I was in a lot of pain and from then on I carried on training with medication and put up with it as best I could but I didn’t feel right and Emery didn’t think I was right. I wasn’t comfortable.
“I don’t think I was even at 50 percent fitness. After 15 days of being at Arsenal, I wasn’t right.”
Denis Suarez has already said that he is looking to leave Barcelona with only 2 years left in his contract. However, it still remains to be seen where he would end up playing next season.
