Former Arsenal loanee Denis Suarez has revealed he was so impressed with Eddie Nketiah he tried to get him to sign for Celta Vigo in January.
Nketiah joined Leeds United last summer on a season-long loan but ultimately failed to see out that time.
Four months into his stint at Elland Old, Arsenal decided to pull the plug on the loan deal. The reason being that the young attacker wasn’t getting enough game time which was against the purpose of him joining in the first place.
Nketiah only made two starts in his 17 appearances for Leeds and he admittedly struggled to get decent game-time with the Whites.
Elsewhere, a struggling Denis Suarez was watching from the sidelines and was already impressed with the 21-year-old forward.
Since returning back to Arsenal, Nketiah has seen regular minutes under Mikel Arteta and is beginning to show some promise. It’s been a two-way battle for the forward role between himself and Alexandre Laczette.
Denis Suarez never failed to impress at Arsenal but revealed he could have completed a ‘big’ transfer.
Upon hearing Nketiah was set to leave Leeds, the Celta Vigo man says he immediately tried to convince the powers at his club to snap up the Arsenal striker.
Suarez said in an interview with Onefootball:
“He went on loan to Leeds but things didn’t work out. And I said if he wanted a striker, he should call him.”
“Now he’s slowly becoming a regular even if not as a starter, he’s having minutes to make an impact.”
“It seems like Nketiah could be important in the coming years at Arsenal and they should take care of him because he is very talented.”
Should any of the senior Arsenal forwards leave the club this summer, the Gunners might be ready to take a big gamble with youngster Eddie Nketiah.
