Jean-Michel Aulas has insisted that Lyon is looking to offer a new contract to Memphis Depay.

Memphis Depay has established himself as one of the most important players for Lyon. The Dutchman has had a blistering start to his season with scoring 11 goals in just 14 games.

Memphis Depay will see the end of his contract with Lyon after the end of the next season. The Netherlands international is also attracting interest from some of the top clubs in Europe.

But Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas revealed that the club is preparing to offer a new deal to the 25-year old.

“He’s going to decide [about the contract extension],” Aulas was quoted by Goal.

“We will make him an extension proposal because he is an exceptional player.

“He is an endearing boy. For me, he’s not only a great player but also an interesting man.”

The Lyon president also expressed his opinion on Memphis Depay becoming the next Lyon captain. Jean-Michel Aulas said he was very excited to see his star man wear the armband.

“I applauded both hands when he was named captain,” Aulas said.

“We also have two or three vice-captains, including Leo Dubois who is unfortunately injured. It’s a good choice.”
