Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa believes that “officials hate me” and that he is now being unfairly singled out every time
The 29 year-old was booked by the referee in Atletico’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao for contesting a decision that the referee had made during the game. Costa also had a penalty appeal turned down in the match.
Despite scoring the second goal for Atletico, Costa was unhappy with the performance of the referee afterwards and shared his theory that he was being singled out.
“The officials hate me and there’s nothing I can do to change that.” said Costa, according to The 42.
“Some of them book me for the smallest issue and it did not matter what it was but [against Bilbao] the referee was going to book me no matter what.
“You can look back at the replay and analyse it, but I did not overstep the mark and did not deserve it, but there is nothing I can do about it now.
“The penalty appeal? I think it is yes, I was knocked off balance by contact from the defender when I was going to shoot so I think it was!”
Since his official return to Atletico in January, Costa has now scored 4 goals in 8 appearances for the La Liga as they look to maintain their title challenge to league leaders Barcelona.
