The Brazilian veteran striker received an early yellow card today and will not play in the next match between Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Goals by Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin gave Spanish La Liga team Atletico Madrid a 2-0 win over Italian Lega Serie A side Juventus tonight.
The game was part of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and was played at Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
And the only good news for the Bianconeri is that Brazilian striker Diego Costa will not play in the second leg of this series after he received an early yellow card.
Diego Costa was carded in the eighth minute of the match which will make him miss the return match in Turin in three weeks.
Costa moved forward from his position in the wall to defend a Cristiano Ronaldo freekick.
He was a surprise in Diego Simeone’s squad as he was not 100% fit to play and the manager decided to put him in the starting lineup.
This is the third era for the 30-year-old player in Atletico Madrid.
He first was bought by Los Colchoneros in 2007 from Braga, but he didn’t play any minutes, as he was loaned three times to Braga, Celta and Albacete.
After one year with Valladolid, he returned to Atletico Madrid again in 2010, and this time he played 39 matches, scoring eight goals in his first season.
After a small loan to Rayo Vallecano, the Brazilian returned to Los Colchoneros in what was his best season with them so far.
He passes to Chelsea in the English Premier League before he came back to Madrid in 2017 for the third time.
Atletico will visit Juventus on March 12th for the second leg of the Round of 16 series.
