Dutch club Ajax is reportedly interested in 18-year-old Diego Lainez, who will leave Mexican side Club America this tournament, revealed Santiago Banos.

Diego Lainez is raising interest from European clubs after a phenomenal season, says Club America’s sporting director Santiago Banos. Banos stated that the club doesn’t want to hold the youngster back from following his dream of playing in Europe.

“It’s almost certain that he’s leaving this tournament,” Banos told ESPN Radio, according to Goal. “We don’t want to close the doors for him to go and compete in international leagues, leagues that are first class.”

“Obviously he’s generated interested on the national and international level. Yes, it’s true there’s interest (from Ajax), but there’s also interest from another pair of teams, so you have to wait and see,” Banos said. “We should go into this calmly and look for the offer that’s best for the club and for Diego.”

After beating Cruz Azul 2-0 on the Liga MX Apertura Final, Club America forward Diego Lainez made clear that he wants to make the move to Europe, saying: “You have to wait. It’s another dream I have and hopefully, it comes through, like this one.”
