With a stellar Europa League performance from Diego Lainez, Real Betis came back from a 3-1 defeat at Rennes’ stadium on Thursday.

The season for Diego Lainez on his new adventure with Real Betis needed a night like this one, the Mexican winger started the match against Rennes on the bench but destiny wanted him to play for the better part of the match after he replaced injured Junior Firpo.

The Spanish club wasn’t really doing any damage during the half hour that Lainez wasn’t on the pitch, the youngster completely changed Quique Setien’s squad from the moment he came in until the very last minute of the match.

Today, Diego Lainez graduated from prospect to one of Real Betis’ best players in this Europa League dream.

But things were very difficult for the Spanish club, as Rennes scored two very early goals from Hunou as soon as the match started, and Javi Garcia with an own goal before the 10th minute of the game.

This two-goal disadvantage was the reason Quique Setien started getting very nervous on the sidelines, he really thought that his players weren’t going to live up to the expectations and they were going to lose the game with a scandalous result at Roazhon Park in Rennes.

The key moment came when Junior Firpo suffered a nasty injury that had to take him off the pitch, this was Diego Lainez’s moment to shine and he didn’t disappoint.

The player was incisive from the very minute he came in, his teammates got a little more confident with the ball at their feet and started creating several chances that gave them the edge on pretty much the rest of the game.

Just past the first half hour of the match, Argentine Giovani Lo Celso scored the first goal for Real Betis that gave everybody hope that coming back from this negative result was possible.

Ben Arfa killed this hope momentarily with a goal from the spot after a penalty was awarded in Rennes’ favor, the match went to half-time with a 3-1 result and very little hope that Real Betis would be able to get back int he game during the second half.

Diego Lainez grew stronger in the last 45 minutes of the game, he led the squad with his electrifying dribbling and was the most valuable player in a crazy game for Quique Setien’s squad.

Past the full hour of the match, Lainez received a foul quite far from the box that didn’t seem too dangerous for Rennes, but Joaquin’s right foot is too precise to underestimate and any opportunity he gets should be considered by the opponent.

The captain sent a ball to the box where Sidnei was already waiting to strike it with a header, he scored Real Betis’ second of the evening but there was confusion by the referee.

In the end, the goal counted and the Spanish club was back in the game but they still needed one more goal to get that equalizer.

Lainez was the player who appeared in the most complicated moment for Real Betis, it was during the final minute of the match and he scored a volley that gave his squad the final 3-3 result.

Scoring three away goals is massive for Quique Setien’s squad, they get a chance to seal the ticket to the next round at the Benito Villamarin Stadium next week.

This great result came thanks to Diego Lainez and his skills, the lad finally started to shine as it was expected.
