Manchester United are looking for a new full back and Diogo Dalot is keen to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the new campaign.

Diogo Dalot has been observing how things are changing at Old Trafford. Manchester United have upped the ante in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The young full back is seen as the heir to Antonio Valencia.

That has definitely put some question marks over the future of Diogo Dalot. The young Portuguese signed around 12 month ago from FC Porto. Jose Mourinho was the man who made that happen. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did give the youngster a lot of chances last season.

But those chances mostly saw Dalot operate as a winger. This could be perhaps the reason why the club’s manager is looking at Wan-Bissaka. Indeed, the two combining down the right flank could be a devastating prospect next season.

Regardless of the rumors and many questions, Diogo Dalot maintains that he prefers to play as a right back and that he needs to prove himself to his manager.

“I want to make my statement in the team and play as much as I can at right-back because I think it’s my best position,” Dalot told Man United’s official website.

“I just need to prove that to the manager with my work.

“At the end of the season, the results were not what we wanted. But I can say it was a big season for me.

“Playing 23 games, and I only started playing properly and had my fitness in December, so it has been very good for me to have the opportunity to play in some different positions.”

Indeed, Dalot has shown a lot of potential and perhaps the upcoming season could prove to be a breakout campaign for the Portugal Under-21 full back.
