Borussia Dortmund are trying to persuade Real Madrid into letting Achraf Hakimi stay for one more season, informs Michael Zorc.
Borussia Dortmund defender Achraf Hakimi’s stocks have continued to soar as he is enjoying yet another fine spell in Bundesliga this season.
A knack to attack and make threatening runs forward from the flank, Hakimi has contributed to 15 league goals for BVB this term, scoring five and setting up 10.
Finding himself as a second-fiddle to Dani Carvajal, the 21-year old Morocco international arrived at the Signal Iduna Park from Real Madrid on a two-year-long loan agreement in 2018 in search of consistent play time.
Since then, he has become one of the most sought-after fullbacks and an essential figure in Lucien Favre’s team.
But his loan spell at the club is nearing its end and he will return to Real Madrid at the end of this season.
Talking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Bundesliga clash against Fortuna Dusseldorf, sporting director Michael Zorc said Dortmund are eager to retain Hakimi.
Zorc said: “Achraf’s contractual situation is clear, he will return to Real Madrid for the time being.
“However, we are trying to ensure that he will play with us again next season. But it’s too early to discuss this now.”
