Ed Woodward has been absent during the club’s preseason tour as the club’s supremo looks to finalize two major deals in the coming days.
While Manchester United players are in Australia for the first leg of their preseason tour, Ed Woodward is the most notable absentee. The club’s chief chose not to travel to Australia and is also not going to join the squad for the Far East leg of the tour.
Ed Woodward has decided to remain in England in a bid to secure more new signings for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. After already bolstering the ranks by bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, Ed Woodward is now focused on signing Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes according to the Evening Standard.
Maguire is likely to join the Red Devils after informing Leicester City of his wish to play for the English giants. Should Ed Woodward succeed in finalizing a deal with the Foxes, it would make him the most expensive transfer for a defender in history.
However, the England international will not be the only signing Ed Woodward is looking to make. The United chief is also eyeing replacements for Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. Meanwhile, with Paul Pogba’s future also under a cloud, a suitable replacement is being mooted.
Newcastle youngster, Sean Longstaff has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, the move is unlikely to happen given the fact that the Magpies want an astronomical figure for a midfielder who played only 19 times in his first season in top flight football.
Bruno Fernandes is another player who is awaiting his future. The Portugal international has already said yes to a move to Old Trafford. However, Ed Woodward is currently locked in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon who are trying to get as much fee as they can out of a potential sale.
