Eden Hazard was “very pleased” to open his scoring account for Real Madrid following his winner against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.

Despite a difficult start in Austria, Real soon began to find their stride with Hazard scoring in the 19th-minute to secure them a narrow 1-0 win.

The Belgian winger cut in from the left and fired home a powerful shot into the right-hand corner. In fact, Salzburg keeper Stankovic could do nothing about it even though he got a hand to it.

For Hazard, however, the goal was most welcome after a number of near-misses this summer following his €100m transfer from Chelsea.

“When you’re out on the pitch, you want to win the game and being a forward, you want to score goals. I’d been waiting for this moment for the last five games and it’s happened today. I’m very pleased,” Hazard told the club’s website.

“It’s still pre-season, but I think we’ve got more energy now. We’ve still got another ten days before our first competitive game so we have to focus and keep working hard.

“Our aim is to be ready for next week, we can’t wait to start La Liga so we’re training and practising hard”.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane was also satisfied with his team’s performance at Salzburg.

“I’m really pleased. We put in a good performance, that’s why we came here,” said the Frenchman.

“We’re going to do great things this season and now it’s important to carry on with our pre-season preparation because there’s still another game before La Liga kicks off. We’re gradually getting ready and we’re better every day. That was confirmed by today’s match.

Hazard and Real will next meet AS Roma for one last friendly on Sunday before starting their 2019/20 La Liga campaign away to Celta Vigo on August 17.
