Edin Dzeko had no doubts AS Roma were the deserving victors after grabbing a late match-winner at Bologna to take the club into the Serie A top-four.
Dzeko literally grabbed the winner right at the death to hand Roma all three points after a tricky Serie A clash in Bologna.
Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, Aleksandar Kolarov’s superb free-kick put Roma in front just four minutes into the second half. However, the defender quickly went from hero to zero when he fouled Roberto Soriano in the area.
It opened the door for Nicola Sansone to fire home a penalty and put Bologna back on level terms.
The visitors were later reduced to 10-men when Gianluca Mancini got a straight red card in the final five minutes. With essentially the final kick of the game, though, Lorenzo Pellegrini’s cross found Dzeko to head in a stoppage-time winner.
“At the end of the day, I think it’s deserved, especially as they told me the Bologna penalty was very soft,” the former Manchester City striker told Sky Sport Italia.
“We believed to the end, even after going a man down. We deservedly got the victory, but winning it like this at the last second feels even better.
“This was not an easy game, as Bologna are very strong, especially at home. We played our game and were just lacking the final ball in the first half.
“Everyone went crazy at the end. I am very happy for the team and the fans, who always follow us. We hope to give them a few more moments of joy.”
Paulo Fonseca’s side now move up to fourth place in the Serie A after collecting their third successive win in all competitions.
Dzeko added: “We are a strong team and we want to keep going, trying to win every game we play.
“We believe in our football and this victory is a huge boost.”
Dzeko has scored four goals in five games this season.
