Edinson Cavani seems hopeful Neymar may remain at Paris Saint-Germain after stating that the Brazilian still has a lot to give to the club.
Neymar’s reported attempts to force an exit from PSG this summer refuse to end. So far, it’s understood he’s keen to seal a Barcelona comeback and is pushing hard to make it happen.
Despite the lingering doubts, however, the 27-year-old has reported back to training for PSG. While relations between himself and the club board have gotten rather frosty lately, the forward is with the team in China.
But it appears Cavani still harbours hopes that Neymar will stay at the Parc Des Princes after all.
“I hope that everything that has happened to him will give him the experience to grow as an individual,” the Uruguayan striker told Le Parisien.
“I think he still has a lot to give PSG until the last day he will be here as a player, and a lot to give to football too.
“Playing with big players like him, like Kylian [Mbappe], it gives me pleasure, now it’s good to find the connection between all of us, to create a good team, a good atmosphere of work, sacrifice and professionalism.”
Admittedly, Cavani and Neymar didn’t get off to the easiest of starts when the Brazilian arrived from Barcelona in 2017.
There have even been reports in France claiming the pair don’t see eye-to-eye often. Undoubtedly, these claims came about following a bust-up they had over a penalty against Lyon in September 2017.
When asked about this, Cavani replied: “A lot of things have been said about us.
“It’s true that we had some differences in the first few months after his arrival, but it’s good to come and talk to each other.
“The social networks, the external communication. It is exaggerated, many things are not true.”
Cavani and PSG will be in action on Saturday for a Trophee des Champions clash with Rennes in Shenzhen, China. The match will begin at 13:30 (CET).
