The Stade de Reims goalkeeper spoke about his past as a footballer, and who he believes is the best in the world.
Stade de Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has enjoyed great success at his current club.
And he talked to the French Ligue 1 official website to tell them about his beginnings as a footballer.
“This has been my number since my first National (D3) game at AS Cherbourg. The 1 and the 30 were taken so there was only the 16 left. But as it brought me luck, I kept it,” he said when asked why he wears the number 16 on his back.
“Ronaldo. Not Cristiano, the Brazilian. I liked his dribbling, his power, his sense of finishing, everything. What he was did was huge.”
“I would have been in business, I think. Life is still long, so you never know! I studied in this field because I have always liked having contact with people,” he said.
“It’s Edinson Cavani who has impressed me the most.”
“He is constantly in motion, he anticipates the mistakes of his opponents, he is super-complete,” he continued.
“He’s a really complicated player to face. Faced with an attacker like that, the whole team adapts. We play deeper, we close the spaces.”
“I would say our first game of the season, our victory in Nice (0-1),” he talked about his best match last season.
“It was complicated for me because I had missed all the preparation games because of a broken finger but the coach decided to line me up anyway. We won there and it launched our season, so it was a special match.”
