Santiago Solari’s debut as the permanent Real Madrid manager ended in an unbelievable 3-0 defeat to Eibar
Los Blancos slumped back into their early season form at the Ipurua after goals from Gonzalo Escalante, Sergi Enrich and Kike.
Heading into the match, Eibar had never defeated Real Madrid throughout their entire history but quickly set about changing that with Escalante scoring after 16 minutes.
Although the Argentine midfielder was made to wait while the referee underwent a lengthy VAR review before eventually awarding the goal.
Eibar then held on to the lead for the remainder of the first-half with Real looking a shadow of the side that had won their last four games under Solari.
To compound their misery even further, Enrich capitalised on some poor defending from Real to double Eibar’s advantage in the 52nd-minute.
Then, just five minutes later, Kike gave the hosts a shock 3-0 lead to get the stunned home fans screaming with joy.
In an attempt to get something back, Solari brought on Luka Modric soon afterwards but the Croation playmaker was unable to make any impact.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was then forced into a string of saves to prevent Real from suffering an even bigger humiliation.
The game ended 3-0 with Eibar moving up from 13th to seventh in La Liga and just two points adrift of sixth-placed Real.
Meanwhile, Real could fall down to 9th-place in the table with Real Valladolid, Levante and Girona yet to play.
