Arsenal boss Unai Emery is refusing to take their opponents for granted ahead of this evening’s Europa League game at Baku
The Gunners are looking to build on their opening game win over Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava a fortnight ago with another three points against Qarabag in Group E.
Arsenal are being tipped to claim victory over their Azerbaijani opponents, but Emery feels that underestimating Qarabag could cause them problems based on their recent performances against the likes of Atletico Madrid and Sporting Lisbon.
“With Qarabag, we have a lot of respect for them. They started with a good performance against Sporting Lisbon in Lisbon in the first match,” he told the club website.
“They lost 2-0 but they gave a very good performance against them, with good players and also with good spirit and good tactical intentions in the game. I remember also, last year here, Atletico Madrid there were two matches against them.
“They could not win. It’s for me, two very good examples for us to have the respect for them.
“Also, we have the confidence in our players to do the best performance tomorrow and also with our work, we can have a great match with a good performance for thinking only to win and to do one good match.”
The Spaniard would not confirm whether he would start with either Bernd Leno or Emi Martinez in goal for Arsenal and shared little information on Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s absence.
The game between Qarabag and Arsenal will begin at 18:55 (CEST).
