Julen Lopetegui is the right man to get Real Madrid back on track and help them move on from Cristiano Ronaldo, says Unai Emery
Los Blancos extended their winless run to four matches in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to SD Alaves and are now fourth in La Liga after eight games.
The absence of record goalscorer Ronaldo is beginning to have a telling effect with Real failing to find the net in their last four matches.
As a result, the pressure is mounting on Lopetegui with reports in the Spanish media suggesting that the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona on October 28 could decide his future.
“Real Madrid must find balance without him [Ronaldo] and they need time to adapt,” said Emery on FourFourTwo. “However, I think Julen will find it.”
The Arsenal boss added: “We cannot answer for Julen, but when it happens to me, I try to be patient, but it is difficult to ask for patience in football. I’m sure the goals will come for Lopetegui.”
Real captain Sergio Ramos also rose to the defence of Lopetegui by insisting that it would be “crazy” to fire him at this stage of his reign in charge.
