With a late long-distance screamer, Christian Eriksen pretty much secured the Top Four position for Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Premier League fight for the Top Four continued this Tuesday as Tottenham Hotspur played at Brighton & Hove Albion with Christian Eriksen as the unlikely hero.

Mauricio Pochettino’s boys were coming from arguably the most exciting week of the season for them and with their head held high.

Just last week, Tottenham managed to shockingly eliminate Manchester City in the Champions League in one of the most thrilling quarterfinals series in the tournament’s history.

They played a second consecutive match against the Citizens at their own stadium in the Premier League but got defeated.

Things got really complicated for Tottenham in their fight to secure a Top Four position and they urgently needed a victory today against Brighton.

Pochettino played the best possible starting XI he could come up with, considering he doesn’t have injured Harry Kane available to play.

This situation pushed Mauricio to a match that was destined to become overly defensive due to Brighton’s urgent need for points.

The visiting squad is also fighting to remain alive in the Premier League against Cardiff City and they really needed at least one point.

The whole match gave us a very difficult contest for both squads, the Argentine manager tried his best to penetrate Brighton’s combative defense and Tottenham nearly got only a point in the process.

Getting a draw in this match would’ve complicated everything for them and they couldn’t afford to get any slips.

The final minutes were very stressful for both sides but there was going to be a last-minute hero from one of the two squads playing tonight in North London.

The Tottenham Hotspur’s fans never gave up on their support to their heroic players and the constant push finally paid off.

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen was the one who held the key for the victory at home.

With only a few minutes to spare during the second half, he released a long-distance strike that fave Spurs the three points.

Tottenham can finally rest easy because they have taken one more step towards that Top Four place in the Premier League.

The Spurs might even finish the season in third place if they play their cards right until the very end.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was quite satisfied with the result after the match and he spoke directly about Eriksen’s contribution to this very important victory.

This victory that Christian Eriksen gave Tottenham reminded Pochettino of how important this player is for his squad.

During the press conference after the match, he spoke about Eriksen’s value.

Another important aspect of his analysis was closely related to Eriksen’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Danish midfielder has been constantly linked to a possible exit from Spurs as the Real Madrid threat loom over North London.

Pochettino didn’t shy away from this question and he confirmed the club will try to secure a contract renewal for their player.

“He has amazing quality. An unbelievable shot with left and right. Of course, mentality as well, but Christian can shoot and can score,” said Pochettino via The Daily Star.

“It is in our hands to be in the top four. If we win our games for sure we are going to be third. We have to focus on ourselves and not the other results.”

“We are open to talk. The end of the season is so close. We must focus on trying to achieve the things that we want.”

“It’s a very special situation. Christian is a special person. The timing to agree something is maybe different to another player. I hope and I wish Christian can be with us in the future.”
