Espanyol have responded to Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s claims that he earns more than their first-team squad.
The former Spain international made this claim ahead of Saturday’s La Liga meeting between the two Catalan rivals, which the Blaugrana are heavy favourites for.

Earlier this week, the former Man United defender told Movistar+ TV cited on Football Espana: “I have more money that Espanyol have in their entire budget.”
“We have our fans, a team that gives their everything in every match and session, we have 119 years of history,” read the Espanyol statement in an apparent response to Pique.
“We have our 21st minute (tribute of former captain Dani Jarque), our academy, respect for our rivals, and our blue and white heart.
“We have values and ethos that cannot be measured in money.”
Barca may be clear favourites to win the derby but these comments could fire up the opposition to stir up an upset.
The Catalans remain hot favourites to wrap up the title with a 10 point gap ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid.
