Eto’o backs Romelu Lukaku to continue to shine at Inter Milan

Samuel Eto’o has tipped Romelu Lukaku to become a success story at Inter Milan after completing his club-record transfer on Thursday.

Following months of speculation over his future, Lukaku became Inter’s newest record signing upon completing a reported €65m transfer from Manchester United. Christian Vieri was the previous record holder from his €46m move from Lazio in July 1999.

Lukaku will, undoubtedly, be eager for a fresh start at the San Siro after falling out of favour at United. Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t a fan and instead preferred to start Marcus Rashford as his main centre-forward.

But Eto’o, who scored 53 goals in 102 appearances and won six trophies at Inter, is convinced his old Everton team-mate will thrive for the Nerazzurri.

“Welcome to the Inter Milan Romeo. More than a team, it’s a family you join,” he wrote on Instagram.

“There, you will rub yourself with stars, so there is no doubt that you will continue to shine.

Five things we learned of Man City’s draw vs Tottenham

After a fresh match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, we need to talk about the five things we learned from this draw. We had...

“Good luck in this new adventure that I hope [will be] filled with goals. Make us proud little brother!”

At 38, Eto’o now plays his club football for Qatar SC in Doha after having spells with Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea, Everton and Sampdoria.

Meanwhile, Inter boss Antonio Conte will be delighted to finally get his number one target in Lukaku this summer.

The Italian coach, who previously tried to sign Lukaku for Chelsea in 2017, was desperate to get the 26-year-old. He pushed hard for the transfer to go ahead despite Inter’s reluctance to match United’s demands.

Ultimately, though, the Red Devils were keen to offload Lukaku and eventually caved to a more reasonable settlement with Inter.

Regardless, the Belgium international leaves Old Trafford with a respectable 42 goals in 96 appearances to his name. His closest rival over the past two seasons was Rashford, who scored 26 goals in 99 games.
