Ever Banega has spoken in favor of Lionel Messi saying the Argentine’s character has never changed.
Argentina played Brazil in Saudi Arabia earlier this week. Lionel Messi, who scored the only goal for his side, was brought under questioning after his strange behavior on the field.
Brazil coach asked the referee to give a yellow card to Messi. The Argentine then disrespected Tite asking him to shut his mouth and not get involved. Brazil captain Thiago Silva also spoke against the Barcelona forward. Thiago Silva accused Messi of being too controlling and manipulating referees to give decisions in his favor.
But Ever Banega has defended his Argentina teammate claiming that Messi is still the same person that he used to be as a child. The Sevilla midfielder, who started his career alongside Messi in Rosario, hailed him as the best player ever.
“In all honesty, he’s never changed,” Banega told Goal.com
“Whenever we meet we have a hug and we don’t talk about football, we talk about our families and how we are.
“Yes, I don’t think there is another one. Look at everything he has done and during that time he has stayed among the best. I think he is the best.”
Banega also pledged his loyalty to Sevilla although he said a move back to Argentina was plausible.
“I have not said anything [about a new contract], I am calm because the truth is that I am very comfortable at the club. And I am not in a hurry.
“I am very happy here, I’ve been here for many years. My family is fine, my daughters were born here and a return (to Argentina) is a long way off.”
🇦🇷 On this day in 2010, Lionel Messi scored the first of his 5 senior goals vs Brazil.
