Ever Banega has been alleged to be prepared to agree on terms with Arsenal but wants assurances from Unai Emery on one thing first, reports Mirror.
The 29-year-old Argentine midfielder who has played under the new Gunners manager when the pair were at Valencia, and later, Sevilla together, before Emery was named Paris Saint-Germain boss, spent a season with Inter Milan.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield as Jack Wilshere set to depart when his contract expires month, but are also strongly linked with Lucas Torreira.
The Gunners are reportedly set to land both players, with Sevilla only wanting to recoup around €12million (£10million) for the Argentine. Capable at being deployed as a No.5 or even a No.10, Banega’s slick passing would complement Emery’s preferred style of play.
But the transfer is not yet a foregone conclusion, despite interest from both parties.
According to La Colina de Nervion, Banega wants assurances from Emery about his position before he puts pen to paper on a contract.
The report doesn’t delve further into Banega’s alleged personal grievances but suggests he wants Emery to be upfront with him – in the same way, he was in telling Wilshere he will be a fringe player if he signs an extension – about his role.
