Niels Nkounkou was thought to be a target for Juventus, but it appears that Everton has beaten them to the signing of the defender from Marseilles.

Everton has announced the signing of Niels Nkounkou from French Ligue 1 side Marseille.

The 19-year-old left-back’s contract with the French side expired this week and the Goodison Park club jumped at the chance to bring the player to Merseyside.

It has been rumored that Juventus harbored an interest in bringing the teenager to Turin.

Everton director of football, Marcel Brands, told the club’s official website:

“Niels is a young, talented player with good technical and physical skills, we have been following him for months.”

“Hopefully he can learn a lot from Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines, as well as Carlo Ancelotti and David Unsworth.”

“Plus follow the same pathway into the first team the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate have taken in recent years.”

The signing comes on the back of rumors that Ancelotti has been trying to sign a Thiago SIlva, a defender at the opposite end of his career’s spectrum.

Nkounkou is one for the future, but who else could Carlo Ancelotti convince to come the Goodison Park?
