A young forward is thriving in Ligue 1 and suggests soaking up valuable information from a present-day legend is the reason why.

Montpellier’s Stephy Mavididi is gradually becoming a key member of the team ever since his €6 million transfer last summer.

His return of two goals in 11 games in Ligue 1 has come in handy in La Paillade’s rise to fifth position in the table.

It was at Arsenal that the striker started his senior career as he rose through the ranks, having joined their youth setup at age 13, before earning a promotion to the Gunners’ first-team.

In 2018, he moved to Juventus. Upon making his debut a year later, he became the first English player to play for the Italian giants since 1992.

The 22-year old failed to impress the Serie A giants and, after a loan stint at Dijon, joined Montpellier this year.

While he was unable to make it at the Allianz Stadium, Mavididi still has sweet memories of working alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and credits the Portuguese superstar for his improvement.

“It was a privilege to even train with him. It’s helped me so much,” Mavididi told The Guardian of his highly-accomplished former teammate Ronaldo.

“It’s not even about going up to him and asking him questions. You just watch him and you learn.”
