Liverpool midfielder Fabinho revealed that they’ve had to quickly put their derby win over Everton behind them with Burnley awaiting on Wednesday
Just three days after Divock Origi’s 96th-minute winner at Anfield against Merseyside rivals Everton, Liverpool will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley.
The Premier League’s Christmas schedule gives teams little time to reflect on their games with Liverpool to play seven times over the next month.
Aside from that, Jurgen Klopp’s side also have a crucial Champions League encounter with Napoli next week with victory necessary for their last-16 hopes.
“Without a doubt,” Fabinho told the club website on if the team had to quickly refocus for Wednesday.
“When you’ve got a lot of fixtures in a short space of time after each game, whatever the result was, you have to immediately start preparing for the next game.
“That’s what we’re doing: the result against Everton was great, another three points, we’re still fighting for first place, but now we’ve got an important, difficult game against Burnley. We’re going to work hard and focus on this game.”
Burnley have failed to win their past seven matches in the Premier League and are 19th in the standings, despite last season’s strong seventh-place finish.
But Fabinho expects a challenge from the Clarets due to their strong form at home.
“The players mention that it’s a difficult place to play,” said Fabinho.
“But even before I came here, I knew Burnley as a tough, physical team who were very difficult to beat at home.
“But that’s what it’s like in the Premier League, especially away from home. We’ll work on that [and] study their team to be prepared for Wednesday.”
