Former Italian manager talked about the current prospects of Serie A, and Conte’s success at Inter so far.
Inter look like a different team with Conte at the helm this season. The Italian managed to turn things around at Nerazzurri and created what looks like an unstoppable force.
Comparisons with Mourinho are inevitable. Although it’s still early days, there’s too much connecting two managers for it to go unnoticed.
Both of them play direct counter-attacking football, although Conte uses a little bit more offensive and modern approach. Both arrived at the club to take the team to the next level.
As things stand, Conte is succeeding; Inter won all of their opening six matches in Serie A. Not only that, but they beat AC Milan and Lazio in the process, with the only stain in the season being drawing against Slavia Prague at home.
One of the most respected football personalities and a manager who saw loads of success in his day, Fabio Capello praised Conte and called for patience.
In an interview with Sky Sport, Capello said:
“Conte like Mourinho? Jose didn’t win in a year, he took time to build the team, give the players mentality and see his ideas turned into reality on the field. Conte also needs time.
“How was Conte as a football player? He was a dynamic midfielder, with decent quality, but he had a trait that only a few had: knowing how to create and score goals.”
Fabello also looked back at Conte’s time with Chelsea, saying:
“Experience in the Premier League? In a context of dynamic play and in a spectacular frame of public he was exalted and did a great job: he won a league and a cup, results of great importance in a short time. He found the mentality he was looking for in the players.”
It’s clear that Conte has Capello’s support. It will be interesting to see how long can this Inter side keep up the winning tempo.
Inter will travel to Genoa to face Sampdoria in the next fixture of Serie A.
