Italy winger Federico Chiesa is rooting for a Portugal win over Belgium to set up a Euro 2020 meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Federico Chiesa would love to face Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.
The 23-year-old spoke to reporters on Saturday night in London after scoring the first goal in Italy’s 2-1 win over Austria 2-1 in a last-16 clash. Either Belgium or Portugal will be their next opponents in the next round.
And, to perhaps nobody’s surprise, Chiesa hopes to meet Ronaldo and the Portuguese squad over in Munich on Friday.
“I hope Cristiano goes through because it would be amazing to face him in the quarter-finals,” Chiesa told beIN SPORTS.
“I played with him this year and he is one of the greatest of greatest players to have ever played the game. We’ll see.”
After Ciro Immobile hit the post in the first half and Marko Arnautovic’s ruled-out strike after the break, Chiesa broke the deadlock five minutes into extra-time with a volley from a tight angle.
Substitute Matteo Pessina added a second goal for Italy in the 105th-minute to seal the victory, Sasa Kalajdzic pulled a goal back late on for Austria with a header.
