Atletico Madrid’s playing style is not quite suitable for Joao Felix and he would rather be a better fit at Real Madrid, claims Carlos Carvalhal.
Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has had a hard time living up to the expectations so far in his debut season at the club.
Felix has contributed to just six goals in 28 games. A few ankle and hamstring injuries have kept him in and out of the team which has prevented him from settling well in his new surroundings.
The Portuguese became a sensation following his breakthrough season with Benfica, and Carlos Carvalhal feels a move to Real Madrid at the time would have been far more beneficial for his development.
“He is a player with incredible technical ability, with a great level. But I’m not sure Atletico’s way of playing is the best for him,” the Primeira Liga side Rio Ave’s head coach said on Cadena SER.
“Diego Simeone is a great coach, his teams are very strong, very competitive. But Joao Felix does not seem to be the perfect player to be there.
“If he had gone to a team like Real Madrid, he would be at a higher level. The context would be more favorable for him.”
