Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara following the Spaniard’s master-class performance against Chelsea.

Thiago and his Bayer Munich comrades ran riot at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night to dismantle Chelsea 4-1 and seal their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite the ongoing problems over his contract extension, the 29-year-old midfielder started the match before Corentin Tolisso took his place in the 71st minute.

Former Barcelona star once again showcased his extraordinary class, dictating the pace of the game with his unparalleled vision and pinpoint passing.

It was Thiago’s blistering showing that caught the eye of Rio Ferdinand, who’s been quick to hail the playmaker’s performance and name him an ideal signing for Liverpool.

“He is a conductor, somebody who controls the tempo of the game, he’s got a wing mirror so he can see behind him, can see all angles, play every pass in the game,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“Intelligent player, he speaks the language which is an important part of it as well.

“He’d be a dream to have for someone like Liverpool. He’s the type of player they probably haven’t got.”

Liverpool are in the driving seat for Thiago’s signature despite growing interest from Paris Saint-Germain in the recent period.

The player himself has his preference set on a move to Anfield and has already informed Bayern chiefs of his intent to link up with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Although the Reds share the same feeling, they have yet to open talks with the ‘Bavarians’ over a summer deal.
