Rio Ferdinand suggests Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the best defensive right-back in the Premier League right now.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes a combination of the defensive skills of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the attacking capabilities of Trent Alexander Arnold would produce an ‘ultimate machine.’
Wan-Bissaka has become an undisputable starter in only his first season with Manchester United. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold has managed to replicate his last season’s form and continues to be a key player in the Liverpool team as they look to claim their first Premier League title in 30 years.
The Reds right-back is believed to be ahead in the pecking order in the England national team. But Ferdinand insists depending on the situation, manager Gary Southgate could start either of them.
“One-versus-one, he will match you physically, he will run with you,” Ferdinand said, according to Daily Mail.
“He will slide on the floor if you’re getting away from him a little bit more and he has to go into overdrive. He can cover people, unbelievable, he could play the right side of a back three at Man United if they wanted to. I think he’d be brilliant there.
“On the ball nowhere near as good as Trent. But Trent defensively one-on-one isn’t anywhere near as good as Wan-Bissaka. So, if you had both of them you’ve got the ultimate machine.”
